Adirondack or Beach Chair
Comparing two types of outdoor chairs Beach chairs and adirondack chairs are two of the most popular outdoor chair styles available. But what separates the two? Is one better for certain uses than the other? Here we'll point out the differences and similarities between beach chairs and Adirondack chairs in order to help you choose the one that's right for you.
Materials
Adirondack chairs are typically only made of wood for a natural, rustic look but models made from recycled plastic that look and feel like real wood are also available. | ![]() |
Adjustable Seating Position
Most of the styles of beach chairs we sell feature multi-position adjustable back and footrests to maximize comfort. You can switch from sitting upright for reading to laying flat for sunbathing quickly and easily. Adirondack chairs aren't usually able to be adjusted but are designed so that their natural position is the most comfortable for sitting and relaxing.
Colors
Both beach chairs and Adirondack chairs are available in a wide variety of colors. Metal frames are usually powder coated for lasting durability and our wood chairs come either finished with protective polyurethane or bright paint or unfinished, which allows the wood to age and weather naturally to a dignified silver/grey.
Accessories
Optional chair cushions made of stain-resistant and UV-treated fabric are available for certain styles of beach chairs and chaise loungers. Other accessories than can be paired with either beach chairs or Adirondack chairs include handy side tables and footrests.
Storage and portability
Most models of our beach and Adirondack chairs fold for compact storage and portability. Those that don't often feature wheels so you can more easily move them around your deck or patio.
